Jan Bouman Dutch, 1945-2019
Jan Bouman (1945) paints precisely - but it is not a "fine artist". Bouman subordinates expression and subject matter placing a greater priority on color and design.
His compositions are a mix of natural and artificial elements, pulled and pushed by unexplained gravitational forces. However, these distortions are presented in an entively believable manner striking a balance between reality and artificiality. Color serves to highten expression and creates a distinctly surreal atmosphere.
His figures, objects, interiors and landscapes are created with the help of detailed sketches, yet the overall construction is a product of his inventive imagination.
