MAYA KULENOVIC
A particilar state of beingWe are pleased to present a series of paintings by this Canadian artist, who also dedicates herself to sculpture.
Edward Lucie-Smith wrote about Kulenovic’s work: “No one would describe Maya Kulenovic’s paintings as ‘photographic,’ yet their place within the realist tradition is secure. Her work is realist in the way that Rembrandt and Goya are realist: it explores the essence of human existence and often reveals uncomfortable truths. These truths are expressed through paintings that fall into very specific categories, rooted in the classical hierarchy of genres discarded by pioneering modernists. In Kulenovic’s oeuvre, we encounter still lifes, portraits (of a sort), landscapes, and architectural compositions.”
The still lifes, architectural studies, faces, and landscapes are, at their core, attempts to explore and convey a particular state of being. As Edward Lucie-Smith observes, “It is precisely this that makes her work so haunting, and so unlike that of any other artist of her generation that I can immediately think of.”

In the world of contemporary photography, the Berlin-based duo Billy & Hells have spent over three decades perfecting a visual language that seamlessly blurs the line between the camera’s lens and the painter’s brush. Comprising Anke Linz and Andreas Oettinger, their work is defined by a signature technique: layering black-and-white negatives with color prints to create portraits of ethereal, timeless depth. This painterly aesthetic has earned them the admiration of international tastemakers, leading to high-profile collaborations with fashion powerhouses such as Christian Louboutin, as well as prestigious assignments like the 2017 TIME Person of the Year cover, where they captured the “Silence Breakers” with profound intensity.
From exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery in London to appearances at international art fairs, Billy & Hells continue to strip away the artifices of the modern world, revealing the soul-stirring character of their subjects through a style that remains strikingly unique.

JUAN F. BÉJAR
Enigmatic SweetsProudly we present two paintings by this Spanish artist, known for his figurative works that blend realism, symbolism, and subtle mysticism. Critics sometimes describe Béjar’s work as “enigmatic sweets”: Technically refined and visually inviting, yet imbued with a psychological depth that challenges the viewer. His portraits and figures are not literal representations, but metaphors for inner moods and reflections.
Recently Béjar made a triumphant return to his hometown of Málaga with a significant solo exhibition entitled 'Béjar. La sombra de la ausencia' (The Shadow of Absence). Béjar's paintings are held in significant public and private collections, including the Várez-Fisa Collection (Madrid), Helmut Brenske Collection (Hannover), the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation (Málaga), the Museum of Fine Arts (Málaga), and the Museum of Modern Art in San Salvador. His presence at our gallery in Utrecht offers a unique opportunity to experience and enjoy his contemporary surrealist portraits!

A Profound Simplicity in FormMorren Galleries maintains a permanent presentation of Kobe’s bronze sculptures. We have recently updated our display with several newly cast bronzes, fresh from the foundry and overseen by the estate. The artistic soul of the renowned Belgian sculptor Kobe (Jacques Saelens, 1948–2014) continues to thrive through the dedicated work of his son, Albin. As the driving force behind his father’s estate, Albin ensures that Kobe’s vision of ‘ingenious simplicity’ remains accessible to collectors and admirers worldwide.
Kobe’s work is harmoniously simple: forms that appear calm and accessible, yet reveal deep human sensitivity. His figures both human and equine transcend literal representation, capturing emotion, strength, and quiet contemplation. At their core, Kobe’s sculptures express a timeless state of being, a visual poetry of beauty and humanity that continues to resonate with viewers.

Frits Goosen
A Timeless Vision of Sea, Harbor, and LandscapeFrits Goosen is regarded as a prominent contemporary master of Dutch landscape and maritime painting. His work carries the unmistakable DNA of the Hague School (Haagse School), a 19th-century movement known for its atmospheric realism and its focus on the interplay between light, air, and water. Much like his predecessors such as Hendrik Willem Mesdag and Willem Maris, Goosen possesses the ability to capture the ‘mood’ of the Dutch coast and countryside. His technique, however, is distinctively modern; he uses a vibrant, impressionistic touch to bring movement to cloudy skies and the shimmering surface of the North Sea. Whether it is a bustling historic harbour or a serene polder landscape, his paintings evoke a sense of timelessness and peace.We are delighted to announce that a new series of recent works by Frits Goosen has arrived at Morren Galleries.
