Eberhard SZEJSTECKI, born 1958 in Gelsenkirchen (Germany)

Szejstecki's works are inherently poetic in several respects.

On the one hand, one discovers his range of materials, such as bronze, plaster, clay, and ceramics; on the other hand, there are the graphic aspects of his sculptures and the rich qualities of his palette, which in turn give rise to the strategic expressions of his sculptures. Each sculpture tells a unique story or depicts a distinct situation. By playfully experimenting with his own color palette of water color and acrylic paint, he is able to produce multiple copies of a single creation, usually 12 pieces.

The variations in texture or colored sediment also give his sculptures those vibrant pastel hues that help his body of work emerge with a fresh perspective.

It's also interesting to note that the artist devotes a great deal of attention to the pedestals of his sculptures-or rather, they are an integral part of them-which lends his work a distinctive contemporary atmosphere.

With complete freedom, he creates anonymous figures-helpful, isolated, comical, naive, curious, silent, or fragile in character. Yet despite a certain reserve, they exude a strong sense of presence that is rarely found in figurative sculpture.

A mysterious atmosphere imbues Szejstecki's body of work with a psychological intensity that seeks to convey existential loneliness by depicting everyday situations.

Rounded forms and the suggestion of frozen moments are of great importance to the artist.
