Jernej Forbici Slovenian, b. 1980

Biography

Jernej Forbici (1980, Maribor - Slovenia) attended the College for Visual Arts in Ljubljana, and completed a degree in painting, with honours, under Professor Carlo Di Raco, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, and then a Master’s degree in visual and performing arts disciplines. Forbici has integrated his studies thanks to a scholarship received from the Slovenian  Office of Culture and an invitation to residency in London, where he had the opportunity to focus his studies on the English masters. Today he lives and works between Kidričevo, Ptuj (Slovenia) and Vicenza (Italy).

The beginning of Forbici's career is marked by the creation of paintings, which over time have been combined with photographic, video, sculptural and installation elements. Over the years the artist has dedicated himself mainly to environmental subjects and to the irreparable damage the man has caused to nature, changing it irreversibly . “In my work, I constantly try to put a mirror in front of the spectators to make them understand that we have taken a wrong path, that of pure consumerism and unbridled capitalism. But I also realized that it won’t do much. Unfortunately, the only way to change people’s way of thinking, or the way of living and thinking, is to feel the real, strong consequences on our skin... "

He has exhibited since 1999 in well-known personal and collective exhibitions in Europe, Canada, United States, Argentina and China; his works are also present in private and public collections.
