Evert den Hartog Dutch, b. 1949
Evert den Hartog (1949, Groot‑Ammers) is a sculptor and animalier, whose work is devoted to capturing the grace, vitality and spirit of animals in three‑dimensional form. He was trained at the Rotterdamse Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (now called the Willem de Kooning Academie) and developed a strong foundation in traditional sculptural techniques. From an early age he cultivated a deep affinity for the fauna and rural surroundings of his native region, which has remained a lifelong inspiration for his art.
Den Hartog works primarily in bronze, creating figurative sculptures of both wild and domestic animals, rendered with sensitivity to anatomy, movement and character. Stylistically, his work often shows affinities with Art Deco, combining streamlined forms, elegant lines and a sense of stylised movement with naturalistic detail. His pieces explore themes such as freedom, natural beauty, and the intimate bond between humans and animals.
Evert den Hartog has exhibited his works in solo and group exhibitions across Europe and is represented in private and public collections. In The Netherlands many of his large size sculptures have been installed in public spaces.
