Biography

Richard Kuiper (Netherlands  1967 – 2023 )

Richard Kuiper is a Dutch photographer and advertising professional, known for his striking and conceptual still lifes that explore contemporary consumption and materials. His work investigates the tension between beauty and caution, often combining the aesthetics of the Old Masters with modern, everyday materials such as plastic.

Kuiper’s background in advertising and visual communication has given him a keen eye for composition, color, and storytelling, evident in his meticulously staged images. At first glance, his still lifes recall 17th-century Dutch masters like Pieter Claesz or Adriaen Coorte, but upon closer inspection, the objects are often made of plastic or other mass-produced items.

In this way, his work reflects on contemporary themes such as sustainability, consumption, and the ecological impact of human activity.

In addition to his artistic projects, Kuiper works as an advertising professional, applying his creative skills to develop visually compelling campaigns. His combined expertise in art and commercial photography enables him to tell stories that are both visually engaging and socially relevant.
