Heather Nevay (Glasgow, 1965)
Heather Nevay is a Glasgow-born visual artist and painter who has maintained a distinctive voice in contemporary figurative art for over thirty years. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Art & Design, Printed Textiles) with honors in 1988. Since then, she has developed a unique visual language that seamlessly combines imagination and emotion.
Her work balances between figuration and symbolism, with color, composition, and imaginative vision playing a central role. Nevay's paintings explore themes such as courage and vulnerability, fear, and the complex dynamics of human relationships. Each work invites the viewer into a moment of wonder, introspection, and a renewed interpretation of the familiar.
Her oeuvre has been presented internationally in solo and group exhibitions, including at the Portal Gallery in London, Cyril Gerber Fine Art, and the Compass Gallery in Glasgow, as well as at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, of which she has been a member since 2015. This recognition underscores her contribution to both Scottish and international art.
Nevay's paintings are technically refined and narratively rich, often imbued with a subtle tension between the everyday and the mysterious. Using paint as her medium, she explores the human experience in all its complexity-from childlike wonder to existential reflection-and invites the viewer into prolonged visual and emotional engagement.
