Biography

Don Clarke (Birmingham, 1932)

After graduating from the Moseley College of Art, Don Clarke continued his studies at the Birmingham College of Art. He began his career working as an illustrator, but in 1956 he moved to Rome to work as an art restorer. In 1972, he settled in Spain, where he developed himself as a full-time painter.

The female figure is central to Clarke's work. By placing these, often nude, figures in unusual situations and surroundings, he creates a mysterious and mystical atmosphere.

 

Clarke's work has been exhibited internationally, including at Artfair LondonKunstRai AmsterdamArt BaselPAN Amsterdam, and Lineart GhentMorren Galleries published a retrospective book on his career and oeuvre.
