Biography

Brooke Shaden (Lancaster, 1987)

Brooke Shaden is an American fine-art photographer and visionary image-maker, internationally recognized for her enchanting, surreal, and emotionally charged self-portraits. Born in March 1987 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, she began her artistic journey after earning degrees in Film and English from Temple University in 2008, before fully dedicating herself to photography.

Shaden's work transcends traditional photography through painterly aesthetics, symbolic composition, and dreamlike imagery. Her self-portraits are not literal autobiographies; rather, she places herself in imaginative, otherworldly environments where the impossible becomes possible, exploring universal themes of life, death, loss, hope, and transformation.

Inspired by her rich imagination and early fascination with both beauty and darkness, Shaden has developed a distinctive visual language that blurs the boundaries between photography, narrative, and painting. Her images are introspective and thought-provoking, inviting viewers into personal reflection and emotional engagement.

Shaden has exhibited in solo and group shows across the United States and internationally, with her work included in major collections and publications. She is also an active speaker and educator, sharing her creative vision worldwide through lectures, workshops, and online platforms.

Through her unique blend of imagination, technical mastery, and thematic depth, Brooke Shaden remains an influential voice in contemporary art, an artist who explores the human condition in all its complexity through the power of visual storytelling.
