Margot Homan

The sculptures of Margot Homan (1956, Oss) show a perfect command of the old craft of modelling and sculpting, with which she continually develops an age old tradition. In her artistic education at the Tilburg Art Academy, the possibility to study and create figurative work lacked, so Homan felt obliged to study the anatomy of the human body all by herself. Homan looks for the inner balance in humans, which she literally translates in her sculptures. The connection to sculptures from antiquity is strong, but also bears apparent differences. An important feature of antique sculptures is their ultimate calm, while Homan’s sculptures are captured in movement, balanced, dancing or floating. The focus is on energy and willpower. The aim of the artist is to communicate from the heart, to provide rest, comfort and beauty to the viewer.
